Head of Department - Prof. K. O. Soyebi
I am a Professor of Diagnostic Radiologist and Consultant Diagnostic Radiologist.
I joined the services of College of Medicine of the University of Lagos (CMUL) on the 27th February 1997 and rose through the Ranks obtaining my full Professorship in October 2021.
The contents of my Inaugural Lecture delivered on the 21st February 2024, re-confirmed my resolution to work in CMUL, regardless of the small monthly wage or the horrendous volume of work, the small number of staff was daily saddled with for love of the Cause. The Cause was to contribute my quota to increasing the quantum of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiologists in Nigeria as ell as the West coast of Africa.
My schooling in Mayflower School Ikenne, I.S.I (International School Ibadan), Federal Government College, Odogbolu and Faculty of Health Sciences of University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), equipped me with leadership abilities which were immediately recognised in CMUL leading to my appointment as 400Level Students’ Training Coordinator, a duty I carried out for 8years, leaving behind a Handbook produced for the students by me.
Amongst other appointments and services rendered by me, in 2001, 12 Africans were selected for a fully funded Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) training on the use of the new imaging Modality – Ultrasonography in Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (JUREI), Philadelphia, PA, USA.
Professor Abdulrahman Tahir, the immediate past Chief Medical Director of UMTH (University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital) were the Nigerian beneficiaries of this Grant.
The institution in 2003, of Centre for Ultrasound Research and Education (CURE), JUREI’s 54th Affiliate centre in Medilag Consult, CMUL, is one of the outcomes; the other being the recognition of my works in Capacity Building in Ultrasonography by RSNA, with RSNA Honorary membership in RSNA’s 86th year, the first Black man ever so honoured.
I was Ag. Head of Department of RBRR, CMUL (2006 – 2008)
First time HOD in Department of Radiodiagnosis, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) (2009 -2016)
Second time HOD in Department of Radiodiagnosis, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) (2021 – 2024)
